Common questions

How do I price a 3D print job?

Start with your material cost — filament price per kg divided by 1000, multiplied by grams used. Add electricity cost based on your printer wattage, print time, and local rate. Apply your overhead percentage, then divide by one minus your target margin to get a sale price that actually hits your profit goal.

What costs should I include in a 3D print quote?

Most people remember filament but forget electricity, machine wear, failed print risk, and time. A complete quote covers material, power, overhead (packaging, platform fees, workspace), and a failure rate buffer — especially for long prints or exotic materials with higher failure rates.

How much should I charge per gram for 3D printing?

It depends on your filament cost and target margin. PLA at $20/kg with 40% margin works out to roughly $0.05–$0.08 per gram including electricity and overhead. PETG and ASA cost more per kg and often warrant higher per-gram rates. Use the calculator to get the exact number for your setup.

Does this calculator work for Etsy sellers?

Yes. Use the overhead slider to factor in Etsy fees (typically 6.5% transaction fee plus listing fees), packaging costs, and any other platform expenses. Set your profit margin to cover your time and growth goals. The suggested sale price accounts for all of it.

Is PrintCalc free to use?

Yes — the pricing calculator is completely free with no account required. Pro unlocks saved filament presets, printer profiles, and PDF quote export for $19 one-time. No subscription.

What does Pro include?

Pro adds saved filament presets so you can reload your common materials in one click, saved printer profiles for your wattage and electricity rate, and PDF quote export — a clean cost summary you can send directly to customers. One-time purchase, no recurring fees.
